martin landskys long association with poker flat recordings continues with yet another exquisitely realized three-tracker. long since a staple of the underground electronic music scene in berlin and europe in general, landsky’s deft ear for dynamics and sense of off kilter dance-floor knowledge continues to do the business for djs and dancers alike. after the great success of vol.1 , landsky now presents ‘ekko traxx vol.2&#8242,,,. ‘echo my head’ is the perfect example - driving, focussed and funky, yet with a subtle undercurrent that keeps you slightly out of your comfort zone and locked in to the groove. weird night contains a spooky, discordant synth that raises the tension over and over, before giving way to a hard driving rhythm track that will see the late night heads fully losing themselves classic landsky style. that organ has a similar aesthetic, chunky rhythms and bass pulses for the floor, and synth stabs and melodic hooks that keep the track in constant forward motion.

club lonely s first 12 inch coming from san francisco drum machine freak vin sol. vinyl only wild chicago trax for club destruction. west coast producer and clone affiliate vin sol has been steadily banging the box creating his twisted takes on house, techno and whatever weird ass grey area that exists between the two. his sound is uncompromising, carefully crafted trax for the dance floor hinging on raw and stripped back grooves with relentless movement. this sentiment is also expertly conveyed in his dj sets and mixes.with his production getting support from both techno and house heavy hitters like marcel dettmann, larry heard, seth troxler, richie hawtin, len faki, scuba, joey anderson and boddika.

modern love very rarely reaches out to artists outside of its immediate surroundings, it’s happened just a couple of times in the last 14 years. but there’s something about philippe hallais that compelled the label to ask him if he wanted to do something together. philippe has released music on a bunch of cool labels (l.i.e.s., the trilogy tapes, delsin, in paradisum), but hearing the first tracks recorded for lighthouse stories, it was obvious philippe was hitting on something new: a kinda weird slow/fast dance music that sounded like a footwork variant sewn up with an exotic production style that was impossible to pin down. these tracks eventually splintered off into different directions, held together by a strong sense of narrative and motion harking back to a teenage obsession with turntablism, detroit electro and ghetto house, and eventually juke and grime. although he’s spent the last few years focusing on more industrial dancefloor variants, for lighthouse stories philippe turned to these foundational influences, as well as his love of mixtapes and sound collages full of unfinished ideas, skits and experiments, all things that inform the flow of this new album. lighthouse stories captures a sense of nostalgia well, but is also a futuristic vision full of that exploratory, vibrant spirit that’s so hard to find in electronic music these days. frames of reference are hard, but in places it reminds us of the dusted swagger of anthony shake shakir, the acquatic drexciyan movements of ultradyne, a loose-limbed take on shangaan, and of actress at his most submerged. but ultimately, it’s an album made by a producer looking to his personal history while forging new ground, pushing ahead with little regard to convention and ultimately ending up with something completely unique: a kind of intimate journal rendered in bright colours and odd shapes.

the r zone series excels at raw, inventive, off kilter club music from a range of mysterious artists. that fine tradition continues once more here with another four cuts of inventive music that takes cues from techno, idm, acid and house. lumidei is all wonky drums and out of time hits and is a brilliantly weird cut full of spacious atmospherics. mynheer is built on a bed of broken beats, knocking hits and metallic textures that all tumble and fall around loosely and invitingly.

mono junks dum records has been dictating trends in the world of minimalistic techno since the 1990s, and its 34th release is as special as any. this one comes from label boss kimmo rapatti aka mono junk vs mesak, who is better known as fellow finn, tatu metsätähti, aka one half of mr velcto fastener and someone who has released on dexter & steffis klakson. together the pair serve up three mixes of their jam and an additional track. title track deep in my mind is a paranoid techno cut with freaky vocal riffs repeating the title as gurgling synth lines and sleek drums rumble below. twitchy synths and high pressure perc add to the hypnotic effect, and overall its easy to see this one making for some perfectly weird dance floor moments. the mix by mono junk is completely the opposite: in his hands it is a beat-less, serene and beautifully styled electro cut that takes you deep into brain soothing space. the electro mind version is then a full on electro jam, with plenty of aqueous synths and fluid lines all squiggling along in classic detroit style. final track sysdrum is back to the raw, with angsty drum lines, crisp and slapping snares and oodles of reverb all making for a brain frying trip.

l_ is the moniker of the brazilian producer and sound artist luis fernando. having released his debut album love is hell in 2014 through the berlin-based antime imprint, he also received attention with a slew of remixes and contributed to several compilations, most notably »hy brazil vol. 7« which was hand-selected by chico dub, one of the most important figures in the brazilian electronic music scene.

home invasion is the new label from real tone man franck roger, a man whose career has scaled the full depths of house music over the past decade or so. evidently seeking a new challenge, the parisian s new imprint promises to adhere to a vehemently underground way of working and produced exclusively on analogue equipment. franck is back again for another solid ep, this time coco bongo is taking the level really high with some mpc beats, weird stabs going thru analog delays mixed with some spring verb to give a unique sound and direction on this one. hypnose is one of the first series of hypnotic low techno direction wich franck wants to go back, using some modular sequences aswell on this one. virgo will surely please some of the deepcore heads around with a ruff beat and hypnotics stabs still mixed in differents external effect wich franck got the secret.

microtonal welcomes blaues licht. after a remix work on micro014 the guys now show up with a real bassheavy techno record. weird effects, large build-ups and some nice portions of fun for the floor. felix bernhardt rounds it up with a remix in just....well...felix-style.

one year has passed since the pilotwings’ first output « agorespace ». expectations went further in 2015 as they contributed to the rave-ish j-zbel project. the pair is now back on bfdm with another ode to rurality and old-fashioned analogue. including 4 tracks, « molitor 71 » goes deeper into retrofuturist nostalgia and bucolic mood. a1 31 septembre (on va tout niker) introduces full-on panflute melodies and uplifting korg exotica. as the trancy chicago dream fades out, a2 les invasions babar unveils its weird combo of electro beats and massive patrick cowley-esque synths. unplanned bass moves lead this jam while an undertaking voice calls for no less than « the greatest experience of your life ». things settle down on the nocturnal b1 congo libre. focus on breakbeats and sophisticated rhythms evokes trance beats, while sparkling synths emerge from everywhere. the ep ends up with a floating ambient piece called buruganda ouverture and designed for the listener to rediscover the meaning of his existence. molitor will give you faith in humanity and flutes again.

duo from somewhere just outside of los angeles, little is known about them, but what you need is this: a prolific non-stop stream of countless releases for labels like opal tapes, handmade birds, beläten and chondritic sound. a truly weird approach that mixes up early industrial and exotic infatuations, cheap gear electronics and world music, obnoxious drones and beach-like radiance. again, primitive drumming and eastern traditions heritage, twanging guitars and dub reverbs. adhoc just premiered *dreary commonplace*.

professor inc returns to boe with a four track ep of low slung heady house vibes, thumping drums and searing soundscapes. punchy 4/4 rhythms and throaty chords of crazy grace the aside where neat percussion sections break up dubby sweeps and deft ambient samples. the rolling loose beats and haunting synths movements of undergound sit nicely inside and offer a pumping club cut. the glorious strings of life after asylum play nicely with vox synths, weird samples and some weighty low end. rounding out the ep, put up the vibe skips and swings with fizzy stabs, modulated percussions and warm grooving bass.

enemy returns with another remix package including efforts from some of our favorite producers at the moment. this collective includes the crafty and credible sound of vril, the legendary steve bicknell, and house musics latest tastemakers mr. tophat and art alfie. getting the remix treatment this time around is dustin zahns 2014 comeback release, >new day rising<. monsieur tophat and his esteemed colleague art alfie surprised us by turning in a very dark and stompy techno rendition of >lost in rapture<. it goes without saying that this one is definitely geared towards the time of the night when things get a little weird. vril follows up with an excellent take on >new day rising< by keeping the tension for nearly three minutes before the reese-like bassline drops in and causes the track to evolve into a groove that demands instant attention. steve bicknell rounds out the package with the peak-time hammer! its relentless, heady, and undoubtedly bicknell! this one has >rave< written all over it.

mysterious hardware tinkerer stephan stl laubner is back with a 3 track + locked groove ep on the london based imprint mutual friend recordings entitled listen up! mind puzzlin is exactly that with a luscious lead line that will twist your head accomponied by stls signature rough and overdriven percussion. smile function has a more ominous tone with repeated guitar plucks that plant themselves into your consciousness. stl builds the groove expertly whilst retaining an other-worldly feel to the track. wrong is a real groover with a growling bassline accomponied by weird and wonderful interwoven patterns coaxed out of stls synths. the locked groove, titled listen up! loop is a nice bonus for the more adventurous dj out there.

up first is gigolo, a spare and weird house cut with sine waves and random claps, hunched drums and trippy synth lines. it s a unique track made in a unique way and will lead to plenty of freaky dance floor moments, for sure. co. art is a whacked out techno cut with slap-funk claps, blistering and blistered synth lines and a rugged bit of bass underlining it all. the track is cavernous and metallic, empty and distant as if it somehow survived a nuclear blast. on the flip, alzheimer is a slow and gurgling, swampy techno number with broken drums and crawling synths that sound like their batteries have run down. icy, watery melodies eventually rain down, but the track remains resolutely eerie. last of all, fabric is another decaying track with subtle, heavily filtered synths and drums all making for a minimal groove that is barely there.

gwen torino is kinda weird and brings some distorted music. twisted, psychedelic science fiction jams with a small portion of acid.

the next pastamusik release is from borrowed identity. his musical upbringing was a melange of ethnic music from friends, weird stuff from local libraries and whatever else he could find in record stores and on the internet, this explaining the fact he makes anything from classical to ambient, house to techno, experimental to electro, hiphop to pop music. never content with one musical genre, but always focused on making music with heart and soul, his releases demonstrate a broad musical range and a wide taste. his new release on pastamusik goes from classic house, dynamic techno to acid-jack. styles and applying them to dynamic arrangements that showcase a confident set of studio skills and a deep understanding of what excites the expectant dancer.

releasing not very often, understand has always kept things in the dark about what is going to happen next. the wait is over and the fifth instalment of the series is named ebandogue and features 3 tracks from dubtil, one of today s best producers in the bucharest underground. ruling side a is opus ebant, an epic masterpiece, driven by a groovy bassline and subtle male choirs. this heavenly atmosphere goes from trippy to driving back and forth making it perfect for a peaktime moment that won’t be forgotten. may also be used in some worship places. debandada and epilogue share side b and besides the producer himself that is almost everything they share. debandada is kind of dark and experimental but full of energy in the same time with weird whispers and evolving hats keeping everything on the move. epilogue has a more positive approach, the general uplifing feeling is spiked ocasionally with a techno resonator and some background synths, and just like that, the random delayed male vocals make it so more interesting.

dear wanderer, ramona is happy to present the video dead, chinaski s debut-­ep for live at robert johnson. originally hailing from the high north of germany, rostock near the rough and stormy sea, the young man with interests in 80s video-­aesthetics and vintage synthesizers is now calling offenbach his home­turf. chinaskis ep starts out with time to kill, a straight forward hypnotizing jacker directly heading to the synthesized happiness. midnight workout features a different side to the young talent sensitive placed synth harmonies packed in a vintage-­pop interlude. after a journey through more harmonious domains, night school turns the page again and picks up on those synth-waves and put ramona away from her calm drive through the midnight heat, right on the dancefloor mesmerizing analogue deep housevibes all over the place.hide society steps out of context and mixes chinaskis affection for the warmth of these marvelous synth-­sounds with trippy post-­breaking or even proto-­hiphop sounds topped off with a weird vocal sample. the title­track the video dead summons all emotional power ramona could implant into a synthesizer, the heartbeat like reduced kick-­drum and hihats floating around the track are mostly incidental or not even there for the ears. purely visual.

as with the best techno, the best minimalist records, the best krautrock ventures, this first model alpha lp hints at a weird sense of time, not totally of the past, not totally of the future, not at all of the present. something in between, a time travel machine that can take you on a random journey. listening to those tracks is a bit like making time’s flow stop.

finally hydergine joins the knotweed records family! hydergine (aka roberto corizzo) is a techno producer from southern italy. he is best known for producing raw dub techno, and has come up with a string of fantastic releases in the last 3 years on labels such as separate skills and ranges.we have been talking to each other since the early days of knotweed records, trying to find the right tracks for the label. roberto approached us at the beginning of the year with some tracks that were a bit -different- than his usual productions: he was experimenting, and we liked it a lot. that s how the gamma experiments e.p. was born.the a side of the gamma experiments e.p. is a heavy atmospheric techno bomb. both tracks on the b side have more an acid feeling to them, incorporating weird arps, rawness and pad trips.enjoy the ride!

san francisco/paris-based label spring theory is back with its fourth release. called sweet bitter love, it s a four track ep of manic sample-driven house from keita sano, a japanese producer who s been on a roll lately with releases for like-minded imprints discos capablanca, mister saturday night, and strictly groove recordings. sweet bitter love kicks off with the tripped-out flair of -once i found a diamond.- it s an uplifiting bongo-led cut with dubby melodics that sound like the kind of thing sleeping bag records would have put out in the early 80s. jacques renault provides a leaner peak-time version — complete with hard-hitting snares and growling bass — via his -once i found a diamond (jacques renault trouble funk remix).- things take a turn for the delightfully weird on the ep s namesake -sweet bitter love.- starting like a straightforward house cut, it explodes into a psychedelic collage of spaghetti western guitars, tribal calls, displaced jazz fills, and other forms of cleverly sampled soundtrack exotica. the release wraps up with yet another curveball on -bouzouk.- here sano lays out a subwoofer-knocking ny garage house rhythm that takes a left turn with frenzied bouzouki playing charting arpeggios through a haze of echoing foreign voices. taken as a whole, sweet bitter love is that rare idiosyncratic bomb of an ep that will keep your dancers moving and your trainspotters guessing — in other words, it s spring theory through and through.

acid, no wave and experimental house producer drvg cvltvre has been busy recently. after releasing with chris moss acid on shipwrec in 2014, vincent koreman then served up a full ep of his own, on dutch label cos_mos and is now back once again with a new four track affair on pinkman that comes two years after he offered up the label’s first ep in 2013. up first, * my houz* is a swampy house track with heavy drums, whirring machines and white noise textures all adding up to an intense affair that sounds like little else. then comes * tyranny of the gods* , a slow tempo but high impact track that builds and builds on a nerve lead synth line as frazzled bass props things up from below. dark and weird, occult and rave, its another unique proposition. on the flip, * sleepdealer* is an unbalanced house track with taught, tight bass and is shot through with laser like synths. serene and spaced out, it makes way for closer * crack spirit guide* which is a noisy, intense and brooding fusion of crisp percussion, big walls of synth and chattering drums that really have you on edge. once agin, then, drvg cvltvre has come up with the idiosyncratic goods.
